DESCRIPTION:How has everyone been doing? It’s been two months since we last had our Color Your Life Project in Luna\, La Union. The group is now planning to conduct its second leg in Pampanga. \nFloridablanca\, Pampanga\nLast year\, one of our core members went on fieldwork in Sitio Camachile\, Brgy. Nabuklod\, Floridablanca\, Pampanga. During the fieldwork\, she met a community of Aetas\, one of the indigenous groups in the Philippines. Then\, she met the eldest member of the community\, Tata Parham\, who was then 110 years old. He’s probably 111 now. \nThe Aeta has been living in the community all his life. He has memories of the Spanish\, American\, and the [brief] Japanese colonial periods. When Mount Pinatubo erupted\, their fields and crops were buried in lahar and they were briefly evacuated to another community. \nAs she talked with the eldest\, she also took note that there were a lot of children loitering even when it was a school day. On the way\, she noticed that the closest school to the community was probably a 20 to 30-minute walk away. Their means of living and main livelihood seem to be dependent on their crops\, livestock\, and poultry. \nFrom that experience\, our team swore that she would come back to visit the Aeta children. Now\, after a year\, with the team of the Color Your Life Project\, she will be conducting coloring activities and distributing coloring kits to the Aeta children she had interacted with. \nBe Part of Our Project!\nBe one with the Crayons’ advocacy in coloring the lives of children. DESCRIPTION:Last month\, we conducted our second Color Your Life project in Floridablanca\, Pampanga. Having to facilitate art activities for the Aeta children of Sitio Camachile created shared memories that we will indeed forever treasure. \nAnd to be able to continue our journey in splashing colors to the children\, we will be having our third project entitled “Project Ormoc” on November 25\, 2017\, Saturday\, 1 PM\, at Ormoc City Hall. As such\, this will be our first ever Color Your Life Event in the Visayas. The reason behind choosing Ormoc to be a part of our project is because of its local government’s urgency of creating public spaces to transform into artists’ hubs. Color Your Life is in line with Ormoc’s movement in promoting the arts and culture\, most especially for the benefit of the young generation. \nIn partnership with the Office of City Mayor Richard Gomez\, the team will conduct its usual activities\, Color by Numbers (individual coloring activity) and Color Our Lives (a collaborative art activity)\, to the selected children of Ormoc City. The team also plans to facilitate additional art workshops such as Telephone cup making and pop-up card making. These said activities will also promote the value of recycling since some of the materials to be used are recycled materials. \nIt is not too late to support our cause! You can still help us by:\n\nBuying a he(ART) Kit for only 70 pesos that will be distributed to the kids of Ormoc. DESCRIPTION:Just when we thought we had wrapped the year up nicely with Project L.I.F.E.\, Color Your Life was invited to team up with an internationally renowned service club – Lions Club International for their Christmas Paraiso Gift-Giving Program on Dec. 23\, 2017\, at Barangay Paraiso\, Roosevelt Ave.\, Quezon City. \nLions Club International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations. They advocate volunteerism and help their volunteers deliver humanitarian services to their local communities. This is very much similar to the Color Your Life movement in which we\, as much as possible\, involve the locals in conducting art workshops for the children. \nBrgy. Paraiso happens to be where Raymart grew up. With the tie-up between Lions Club (Manila GMA Chapter) and Color Your Life\, we are hitting two birds with one shiny and colorful stone. DESCRIPTION:Hey guys! We just finished Project Bontoc\, Color Your Life’s first-anniversary event\, but we’re not yet done celebrating the feast of colors! Color Your Life is inviting you to our first art exhibition; opening is on August 30\, 2018\, Thursday\, 3 PM at the Erehwon Center for the Arts\, Erehwon Building\, #1 Don Francisco St.\, Villa Beatriz\, Old Balara\, Quezon City. \n \n“Color Your Life: A Children’s Exhibit”\, one of the featured exhibits of Erehwon Fiesta 2018\, will mainly showcase the artworks created by the participants of Color Your Life’s anniversary project\, “Project Bontoc”. Being such the first exhibit and a post-project event of Color Your Life\, it will also feature photo prints of previous projects as well as mock-up installations of the art workshops that the organization has already facilitated; with the special participation of Mika Martinez Benitez\, a child visual artist who uses acrylic paint as a medium.\nThe exhibit will encapsulate not just the team’s journey as travelers but also the exploration of the children from Brgy. Mainit who then created a different artistic experience through the individual and collaborative art workshops they participated in. DESCRIPTION:Around the same time three years ago\, we went to Tanay\, Rizal for a collaborative project for the Dumagat tribe with our international friends\, Mike and Joel. Still grateful up to this day especially to our talented local artists and volunteers who lent their time and effort. It wouldn’t be as successful without them. Then 2020 came\, and we faced a pandemic and this froze our mobility. As much as we wanted to visit a community\, we found it challenging to plan one. \n\n\n \nNow\, Color Your Life team is proudly back! And we are going back to Tanay in consideration of the ease of restrictions in the greater Manila area. This time we are collaborating with Rotaract and Rotary Clubs of Midtown Diliman and the Alpha Phi Beta Fraternity\, not only to facilitate our usual art program but to hand out as well a basic health and safety orientation to Dumagat Remontados in Sitio Macantog.
